OK. It's time to take this blog a little more seriously. I managed two posts and fell off. This is something that I am notorious for. I frequently get gung ho about something and then life happens and I abandon it like all the toys that lost their thrill a week after Christmas. So, I am here to redeem myself with my top 5 tips for living frugal in the city.
1. Scoutmob, Loaf Deals, and so on....
I loooove a good deal. So much so that I have found myself buying things I may not need just because I can save so much off the original or market price (I know if not really saving if you didn't need it ion the first place). For this reason I have to subscribe to every deal website I come across and we know they are countless. Scoutmob is my fave for on the go. Groupon is good for services and vacations. Loaf Deals introduces you to cool new places and events. There are about 15 more in my inbox, so I don't need your judgement right now.
2. Tastes better on a Monday...
So, when you live in a large metropolitan city there is always something going on. For this reason businesses compete for the crowds and frequently advertise specials on "down" nights like Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Hello Taco Tuesday and Wine Wednesdays! We love $2 takos at Takorea and 1/2 mussels at Apres Diem, to name a few. Many places advertise their specials on their website or social media, so get to browsing.
3. Social Media
Businesses are just as much media whores as the Kardashians. They'll do almost anything for a like. So when you like their page on Facebook or picture on Instagram they have specials like a free menu item or a percentage off your bill. Time to be a little a little loose with that clicker finger.
4. Walk it out
Getting around without a car is the number one reason I moved to midtown. I walk to work, grocery stores, drugstores, the post-office, and then some. I rarely get in my car and this saves gas money and parking fees. Not purchasing the parking pass for my job saves me over $700 a year! And on top of that I am getting built in exercise every time I leave my apartment be in on foot or bicycle. Not that I have lost any weight, but I haven't gained any (much) either!
